What are UTMs and how can I use them in my events?

UTM is an acronym for 'Urchin Tracking Module', and is a small snippet of code added to the end of a URL that can help you track the effectiveness of your digital marketing campaigns. These parameters (source, medium, campaign, etc.) allow tools like Google Analytics identify exactly where website traffic originates, such as specific social media posts, emails, or ads.

How do I use UTMs in getregistered?

Currently we support UTMs in getregistered when using our Invitations feature, allowing you to add your own UTM codes to an attendee invite to track your UTM campaigns.

To create an Invitation with UTMs attached, enter your Invitations area and then select to create a new invitation:

Populate the Invitations form as usual, and when you scroll down you will see the following fields - UTM Source and UTM Campaign:

Enter your unique UTM codes here, ensuring that they match the UTM type (source/campaign), and when you're ready, hit 'Save Invite'.

Now when your attendee receives their invitation email, when they click on the invitation link, your UTM codes will be applied to the registration. You can also add UTM codes when creating an Invitation Import, just add your UTM codes into the relevant columns and they will be applied to all invitations once sent out.

Where can I view attendee UTM codes in getregistered?

You can easily view an individual attendee's UTM codes when viewing their registration. At the bottom left of their registration 'show' page, you will see any UTM data captured for the attendee displayed.:

You can also create custom reports to view all attendee UTM data at a glance. Simply enter the Custom Reports area and start creating your report - when you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see a 'UTM' section displayed:
