Can I create fields that can only be completed by guests?

Please note that the following article shows functionality for the new version of our form editor (v2). If you are using our legacy form editor (v1), you can still use this feature following the steps in the article below. By using Data Tags/Metadata on your registration form fields, you have the ability to add a data tag that will make a field required to be completed only by a guest registrant. These fields must be marked as 'Required' for the feature to work.

When interacting with a registration form field, click on the Data Tags/Metadata area and enter the text GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE in the 'Key' field. In the 'Value' field, enter one of the following:


  • notice  - this will display a notice to the main attendee stating that the field can only be completed by the guest attendee when they are interacting with the guest registration form
  • disabled - this will show the field in a 'disabled' state, with a notice to the main attendee stating that the field can only be completed by the guest attendee when they are interacting with the guest registration form
  • hidden - this will completely hide the field from the main attendee when they are interacting with the guest registration form

How does the GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE flow work in getregistered®?


When the main attendee selects to add a guest and GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE has been added to some of the registration fields, they will see something similar to the following:

In the example above, the notice  value has been used on fields 1 and 3, field 2 is using the disabled value. There is another field present here, but this has the hidden  value applied, and therefore is not displayed for the main attendee.

When the main attendee confirms the registration, they will see that the guest registration will indicate that there are fields left to complete by the guest:

On registration completion, the guest will receive a 'Complete your registration' email:


If there are any issues with receiving this email, as an admin, you can resend the notification either on the Registrations grid or the guest's registration 'show' page by clicking the 'Resend Self-Complete Notification' option:

When the guest follows the link in the email, they will be asked to create a password to access the form. Once they create their password, they will be presented with the fields left to complete. Once they have completed the fields and submitted, their registration will be confirmed:


As an admin, can I populate/edit GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE fields for a guest?

As an admin, you have complete control over the content in the GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE  fields. You can populate the guest form when creating a new registration or when editing an existing one. Please note that if you complete all GUEST_SELF_COMPLETE  fields for a guest, they will automatically be confirmed, and therefore no notification will be sent to the guest to finish the registration.
